Albany YMCA/Albany Library Brown Bag Lunch Speaker's Forum: Richard Schwartz on the 1906 Earthquake

Brown Bag Lunch Speaker's Forum

Richard Schwartz
discusses "The Amazing Volunteer Relief Effort in the East Bay After the 1906 Earthquake."

Following the sudden flooding of the East Bay by San Francisco Earthquake refugees, residents opened their hearts and their doors by organizing themselves to take care of the shocked San Franciscans. This relief effort was so successful, it was shut down after ten weeks. What did these people understand and do that led to their success and how does that compare with our modern efforts? Richard Schwartz, author of many Bay Area history books, including "Earthquake Exodus, 1906" will tell us this story. Go to www.richardschwartz.info for more information.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Albany YMCA and the Albany Library.
