Luciano Valdez is a traditional Huichol man who lives in the Sierra Madres of Mexico. Each year he brings loads of new yarn paintings, beaded animals and amazing jewelry.
Traditional Huichol people live in the Sierra Madre mountains in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco in Mexico. They live a sustainable lifestyle, as they always have. Their artwork is made by putting a thin layer of beeswax and tree resin over wood and then carefully pressing either yarn or beads on to the wood to create intricate designs. The imagery in their work is full of symbols of healing, protection and/or gratitude. Their beaded jewelry also contains symbols of their spiritual life including deer, scorpions, medicine flowers and plants, .
In order to support these traditional communities, each time Luciano shows at Gathering Tribes he receives 100% of the proceeds. This show is a wonderful way to bring beauty to yourself or loved ones while helping one of the most traditional Indigenous communities in the world.
