Visitors to Cancún, the Mayan Riviera and the entire Yucatán often wish they had seen the peninsula before its dazzling beaches, lonely ruins and remote jungle became elements in a vast network of resorts. On March 23rd, 2012, Xicalango Press will release A Mango for the Teacher: Running the Beach and Running a School in Cancún’s Early Days, amemoir that plunges readers into the clear waters of the Yucatán of times gone by. An upbeat tale of adventure, languages and romance, A Mango is the work of Albany Adult School teacher Deborah Susan Frisch. The book launch will be held at Berkeley’s Talavera Ceramic and Tile at 1801 University Avenue. Talavera is the only store in the area for “awesome hand-painted high-quality Mexican ceramics,” say its many fans.
