First Person Singular's HOOT! Numbering Our Faults: California Songs

You know the way to San Jose. You've gone to San Francisco and put flowers in your hair. You're stuck in Lodi. Again. Why not steer your little deuce coupe to the East Bay and sing about it? California - one of the most sung-about states - is the promised land within the Promised Land. The place to bring your dreams. But for every Steve Jobs there are a million Tom Joads, and you can't get to Hollywood without passing through Chinatown. California is David Hockney and James Ellroy. It's Ansel Adams and Lindsay Lohan. It's a hipster reading Nathanael West in a West L.A. cafe. Frankenstein. Gertrude Stein. We've got a multitude of theres here, folks, and we plan to visit them all at our next HOOT!

HOOT! is First Person Singular's monthly, musical, theme-based open mic. Come sing, or just come for the show!

Hosted by Joe Christiano & Theresa Kelly

The Rules.
1. Cover songs only! (And covering your Aunt Tillie doesn't count).
2. 1 to 2 songs per performer.
3. Quick set-up. We'll have a single amp and mic if you need it. The acoustics are great at St. Alban's, and HOOT! is essentially unplugged.
4. A piano will be available. Apart from that, bring your own ukelele.
5. No "sing and scram." Every performer deserves an audience, and HOOT! is designed to be a group effort.
6. You may perform solo, duo, small group, a capella, instrumental - however you see fit.
7. $3 (or what you can afford) in the hat for all attendees - performing and non.

SIGN UP via the First Person Singular website:

Please include your name (or stage name), the song(s) you'd like to perform, and any short-and-sweet biographical info you'd like to be introduced with. We will try to accommodate everyone, but slots are limited. If you choose a song that has already been taken, you will be asked to submit another.

Hope to hear you HOOT!
