Read-And-Write-Athon for Writer Coaching

Here comes the major fundraising event for the nonprofit [Community Alliance for Learning] that recruits and trains community volunteers as Writer Coaches! This year 500 volunteers have spent an hour a week at one of 12 East Bay public middle or high schools, from El Cerrito to Oakland, working one-on-one with students on their English papers. In Albany, the writer coaches work with AMS 8th graders on their big research project, the I-Search.

The EVENT is an intimate setting with 5-20 people, at the library at Martin Luther King Middle School in North Berkeley. People are signing up for a 15 minute reading slots by contacting anniewcc@igc.org. Literary Jeopardy is at Noon, and a group reading of the play "Pygmalion" is at 2:00, so extra people are needed at those times.

People support this program with both time and treasure. You can SPONSOR this event by asking TEN of your friends to donate TEN DOLLARS at www.WriterCoachConnection.org.

Even in these tough times, most people can afford $10-- and research shows that there's no harm asking-- most people don't mind.

This harnesses the awesome power of community support that WCC depends on. Thank you!
