Turtle Island to Abya Yala, A Women of First Nations Poetry and Music Benefit - Featuring Ta’c wees:

 Macha Femme & Malinalli Press presents: Turtle Island to Abya Yala, A Women of First Nations Poetry and Music Benefit - Featuring Ta’c wees. This special event will take place on Thursday, June 16^th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists. Refreshments will be provided. Children and families are encouraged to attend. All are welcome. This is a drug and alcohol free event.

 Poets who will be sharing their work from the forthcoming book, Turtle Island to Abya Yala, include Sherry Wilson (Dine/Pee Posh), Amy JB Wagner (Pomo/Concow), Luna Maia (Yaqui), Brianna Lea Pruett (Cherokee), Mica Valdez (Mexica), Jaynie Weye Hlapsi (Yaqui), Marjorie Jensen (Powhatan), and Pennie Opal Plant (Yaqui/Cherokee/Choctaw), with a special guest performance by Ta'c wees (Traditional Acapella).

 “Turtle Island” has signified North America for many First Nations peoples and is derived from the Haudenosaunee/Iroquois creation story of Sky Woman and Turtle Island.  “Abya Yala” is the name given by the Kuna Nation of Panama that is commonly used by many South American Native peoples to describe the continent known as America and means, "land in its full maturity."

 Over 60 Native American and Latina women poets and visual artists will use all proceeds from this event to print an anthology on the theme of love.  An anonymous donor has pledged to match all donations up to $200.00 for the publishing project.
