Voyage Through a Hidden World

Sandra Yagi's work is inspired by the natural sciences as well as by the classical drawing and painting techniques of the old masters, including anatomical studies by artists such as Andreas Vesalius and Bernhard Siegfried Albinus.  She is especially fascinated with the process of evolution.  The exhibit will include the debut of an ongoing project and collaboration with writer Julie Benbow,  in which Yagi is portraying in watercolor the strange and fanciful hybrid beasts encountered by a fictional naturalist/artist in the late 1700s.  Each painting will be accompanied with the journal entry describing the circumstances of the creature's discovery, and its taxonomy. Opening begins at 7pm.
