EMERYVILLE, CA — The Emeryville City Council announced Monday that it has selected veteran administrator Christine Daniel to be the city's new city manager.

The City Council said the appointment of Daniel ends a three-month-long search during which 30 candidates applied for the position.

Emeryville Mayor John Bauters said he and the City Council are "excited" to have Daniel join city government, saying that she "brings the right combination of experience, skills and ideas to Emeryville."

Bauters said, "Christine has significant expertise in land use matters, economic development, housing affordability, public safety and fiscal management. Christine's experience with these issues that matter most
to Emeryville residents and businesses stood out."

When Oakland leaders hired Daniel in 2015 they said she had lived in Oakland for 25 years as of that time.

In a statement in 2015, Daniel said, "I am honored to be joining the Oakland team. I look forward to working in my home city and devoting my skills and experience to a place that I love."

In Oakland, Daniel works under City Administrator Sabrina Landreth, who had been Emeryville's city manager but took the top job in Oakland on July 1, 2015.
