Gathering Tribes at 1412 Solano specializes in arts and crafts "made by indigenous artisans of the Americas." In addition to all the fantastic stuff inside the shop there is now a bold new sign over the front door outside facing the street. I always liked the old bluish sign (more a "banner" says the owner) but in the four years it was up it got battered and faded and in the end quite hard to read. The new sign, produced by Art Thou (just up the hill on Solano), was designed over a six-month period and should make the shop appropriately visible on its prominent corner. If you want to check out the sign yourself, considering visiting on July 13 to see Cherokee writer and beadworker Kim Shuck or on July 27-28 to see original paintings and masks by Bernie Granados. Details are on the Gathering Tribes website at http://www.gatheringtribes.com.
