Gillman Overpass

homeless and safety

To the Cities of Albany and Berkeley,

I am writing about the Gillman overpass area. Long before the homeless were there it was a tricky area to drive through. That remains unchanged.

Now add on the challenge of the large homeless population allowed to reside there on the highway ramps and side streets and the area has become an accident waiting to happen. I often drive through there late at night when returning home from work. There are few lights, lots of traffic moving fast and the homeless walking around with little apparent concern for their safety. They walk in the streets and on the railroad tracks and they often seem to be wearing dark cloths so that they are especially hard to see.

Without change I am quite certain someone will get killed there sooner or later. And this death will be on the cities of Albany and Berkley both. It is apparent to everyone that this is a problem. I guess it will take a needless death before they decide to take action to remedy an unsafe situation.
