Golden Grads Return to Saint Mary's
The annual "Golden Reunion" is a highlight for alumni and the current graduates.
Nearly three dozen members of the Saint Mary’s College High School Class of 1965 joined the Class of 2015 for a weekend of “Golden Reunion” events on June 6 and 7. The annual reunion is a highlight of the school year. Pictured, the men gather on campus before the Baccalaureate Mass on June 6 and chat with graduating seniors before Commencement at Zellerbach Hall at Cal on June 7. The reunion weekend includes the Baccalaureate Mass on the school campus, with an address to the seniors by a member of the Fifty-Year Class, a reunion dinner, special fifty-year diplomas at graduation, and an afternoon barbecue after Commencement. Brother Mel Anderson, FSC (center in group photo), Saint Mary’s High Class of 1947 and Saint Mary’s College President from 1969 to 1997, was the High School’s Principal from 1964 to 1969, and was on hand for the reunion celebration. The 1965 alumni in attendance came from as far away as Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona, Oregon, and Oklahoma. From 1927 until 1969, the high school also had boarding students, who frequently return to campus for visits and to tour their families. (Saint Mary’s High Photos)
Note: The young lady seated in the second photo is Carmen Julia Bloom, renowned Saint Mary’s songstress, who was featured in the school’s Jazz performance on the stage at Memorial Park during the May 3 Arts & Green Festival. Ms. Bloom received the school’s Palestrina Award for Choral Music and will attend Humboldt State University in the Fall.
