Little League: Albany 12s Run Away With 12-3 Win

A seven-run sixth inning is too much for Pinole-Hercules on Wednesday.

The Turning Point: With the game at 5-3 entering the final inning, Albany's Willie Bass and Jeremiah Holmes hit two-run homers to help put the game out of Pinole-Hercules' reach.

The Quote: "He's a man of few words," said Albany manager Frank Knowles on Williams' good performance, but calm demeanor.

Who's Next? Albany will face the winner of the Alameda/Concord American game on Saturday in the winners' bracket semifinal.

The Bottom Line: When the game seemed like it would come down to a close ending in the sixth, Albany pushed on the accelerator and pulled away. The team now gets two days off.

Albany Little League's Jordan Williams didn't have much to say after Wednesday's victory against Pinole-Hercules.

His performance spoke for itself.

Williams was 5 for 5 and scored a pair of runs as his team used a seven-run sixth inning as an exclamation point in a 12-3 blowout of Pinole-Hercules in Lafayette at 711 St. Mary's Road.

"I was just doing good today," said Williams.

Count his coach as impressed.

"Jordan got the big hit that got things rolling and was followed by Willie two batters later," Albany coach Frank Knowles said. "That was really nice."

Avery Tonkyn walked to start the sixth inning and Williams took a 1-1 pitch over the fence in right center to make it a 7-3 game. Jeremiah Holmes then walked before Willie Bass belted a 2-1 pitch out of the park to secure a 9-3 advantage.

Grady Camps hit a single to left and Andrew Whittemore walked before Nathan Greco hit a bouncer down the third base line to drive them in. Greco would score on a ground ball from Avery Tonkyn's ground ball to score the final run of the inning.

Greco started the game for Albany and went three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out five en route to the win. Holmes pitched two scoreless innings and Williams finished off the sixth.

"We're all set pitching wise," Knowles said. "All of our pitchers are available for Saturday. We wanted to make sure we had all weapons available."
