New Stretch Of Bay Trail Will Provide Spectacular Views

ALBANY, CA — The East Bay Regional Park District is extending the San Francisco Bay Trail by 1 mile between Buchanan and Gilman streets west of Golden Gate Fields. This is one of the largest remaining gaps in the Bay Trail in the East Bay. When completed, the new trail will provide spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay and Mt. Tamalpais.

The trail segment is being constructed across a 4.88 acre easement donated by Golden Gate Fields to the East Bay Regional Park District in 2016. Golden Gate Fields will remain open during construction, which is expected to take approximately 15 months between October 2018 and December 2019. Patrons of the horse racing venue will continue to access the race track at the entrances located at Gilman and Buchanan streets.

Bicyclists and pedestrians crossing Golden Gate Fields property during construction should be mindful of the on-going construction. Security fencing, barriers and signage will be in place to keep race-track patrons and members of the public safe.

As part of this same project, EBRPD is undertaking a habitat restoration project at Albany Beach. The beach is expected to be closed for 5 months during construction.

The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful public parks and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of San Francisco Bay, established in 1934. The system comprises 121,000 acres in 73 parks including over1,250 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and nature learning.
