Nomination Period to Run for City Government Begins July 16

Residents hoping to run for office in Albany in November can file for consideration for inclusion on the ballot from July 16 through Aug. 10.
Nomination papers can obtained from and filed to the city clerk during this period. The clerk's office is located at 1000 San Pablo Ave., and can be reached by phone at 510-528-5710.

Three council seats will open next year; and will have "termed out," while will be eligible for re-election if she chooses to run.
Two seats on the school board will open up, with the ending of the terms of and . Both have said they plan to run again.

The city treasurer post also will be up for grabs, but treasurer Kim Denton said she also plans to run again.
All of these positions are four-year terms.
The next municipal election is scheduled to take place Nov. 6.
To run for office in the city of Albany, candidates must be a U.S. citizen and must live in Albany for 30 days prior to nomination.
Candidates must collect the signatures of 20-30 registered Albany voters to file nomination papers.
