To mark its 25th Anniversary, the Women's Hall of Fame is accepting nominations in a new category called "Emerging Leader," which will celebrate young women representing a new generation of leaders.

The women who are selected to join the Hall of Fame this year will be selected in that category and 12 other categories.

The original deadline for submitting nominations in any of the 13 categories was Jan. 22 but that deadline has been extended until Jan. 31.

County officials said more than 200 women have been inducted into the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame since its inception in 1993.

In addition to honoring women leaders from Alameda County, the annual event raises funds for youth scholarships and helps support local nonprofit community partners that serve women, youth and families.

The Women's Hall of Fame event is held in conjunction with National Women's History month in March.
