On San Pablo: Mary & Joe's Sporting Goods
This is the first installment of a new, weekly look at San Pablo Avenue by photographer Dorothy Brown.
Mary & Joe's Sporting Goods has been an institution in Albany since 1956. The two were the children of Carlo Carlavero, who built the building that houses the shop in 1921.
In 1956, Mary married Pat Neylon. Their daughter, Kelly Neylon, now runs the store, along with her father, who is 89. Mary Neylon passed away several years ago.
Kelly and Pat are huge boosters of sports in Albany schools and have witnessed countless Little League parades. If you or your kids are into sports, you've probably been inside Mary & Joe's.
