Pedestrian, 61, Hit By San Pablo Ave. Tow Truck Dies From Injuries

The resident of San Pablo sadly passed away this morning at a regional hospital.

RICHMOND, CA - A man who was struck by a tow truck Friday evening in Richmond died this morning as a result of his injuries, according to police. At around 4 a.m. Leonard Lua, 61, of San Pablo died at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, police said.

On Friday, at 6:53 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 12600 block of San Pablo Avenue. Lua was attempting to cross San Pablo Avenue, between Solano and Garvin avenues, when he was struck by the tow truck, according to police.

The driver was traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue at the time of the crash, police said. Lua was airlifted to the hospital.

The driver of the tow truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
