Planning Commission Holds First Study Session on General Plan Update

Also on the agenda for Wednesday's meeting, which starts a half hour earlier than usual: a pink business sign and design review for 1600 Solano Ave.

The Albany Planning & Zoning Commission will hold the first in a series of study sessions on the Albany 2035 General Plan Update when it meets Wednesday at City Hall, 1000 San Pablo Ave.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., a half hour earlier than usual, and the general plan review is the first major item on the agenda. Public comment is invited; no commission action will be taken.

This study session will include an overview of the General Plan Update work program and schedule, a summary of the legal requirements for the General Plan, and a recap of the existing (1992) General Plan, according to the meeting agenda.

The commission will hold further study sessions over the next 14 months, be convening Study Sessions on the Plan for the next 14 months, with the goal of producing an updated General Plan and Environmental Impact Report by the summer of 2014. Each meeting will include an opportunity for public comment.

—Design review of a new sign at Tails a Go-Go, 1124 Solano Ave. According to the agenda, the business received administrative approval for a sign with a white background, while a sign with a pink background was actually installed. The issue is being brought to the commission after the city received an anonymous complaint about the signage.
