Playing with Sand: Impromptu Art on Albany Beach on Sunday
On Sunday afternoon, environmental artist Zach Pine gathered an enthusiastic group happy to brave the chilly wind to create sand globes.
Based in Berkeley, environmental artist Zach Pine has quite a following in the Bay Area. He sent out a short-notice e-mail that he would conduct a free Sand Globe Playshop at Albany Beach on Sunday afternoon, and folks came from as far as Orinda to participate.
There is quite a technique to creating a sand globe. You need just the right combination of clean sand and water. And the bigger they get, the heavier they get. So, as you toss and spin your globe, you are getting a medicine ball workout that's actually fun. If you go to Albany Beach this week, look for some new art on the driftwood. You can learn more about Zach Pine on his website.
