Police Calls: 5 Accidents in 1 Day, Car Stolen, Dogs Afoul of Law

The Albany police log for May 3 has five accidents, including a hit and run leading to an arrest, a couple with dogs in the dog park at the wrong time, 20-30 juveniles drinking beer and smoking, a loud machine complaint again and a stolen car.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Friday, May 3

Suspicious person – At 2:11 a.m., police a report of a man in his early 50s casing a garage on Stannage. When confronted, the man said he was just looking in the garage and left on foot on Solano towards San Pablo. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

DUI arrest – At 2:51 a.m., police arrested a Berkeley male in the 1100 block of Masonic on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Bike theft – At 3:12 a.m., police received a report the theft of a blue bike with a black bag that just occurred on Evelyn. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto theft – At 7:34 a.m., police received a report of a rental car being stolen overnight at Brighton and Talbot. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 8:34 a.m., police received a report of an iPod taken from a vehicle during the night on Spokane. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury motorcycle vs. ped – At 9:19 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury motorcycle-vs.-pedestrian accident at Castro and San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Dogs in dog park at non-dog time – At 10:46 a.m., police logged a municipal code violation by a man and a woman with three dogs in the dog park at Carmel and Thousand Oaks. The couple asked the officer to explain the times that dogs are allowed. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation. (Dog hours begin at 11 a.m.)

Non-injury accident – At 11:05 a.m., police logged a report of a non-injury accident at Portland and Key Route along with a garage door open and a lot of property inside. Disposition: Case report taken.

Another complaint about loud machine – At 12:47 p.m., police received a complaint from a person who had seen a complaint from someone else in the Albany police blotter about a loud machine that cycles on and off all night long at the Solano Grill and wanted to add his complaint. He asks that someone speak to the owners. Disposition: Message left.

Non-injury accident – At 2:09 p.m., police received a report of an accident involving vehicles, including a white Volvo, on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Assist in El Cerrito burglar pursuit – At 5:11 p.m., police logged a residential burglary on Ramona in El Cerrito and a suspect in a black or red hoodie fleeing in a silver Chrysler 300 4D sedan. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Non-injury accident – At 5:59 p.m., police logged a non-injury accident involving a Mazda3 in the parking lot of the Albany Pizza Company on San Pablo. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Many beer-drinking, smoking juveniles – At 7:45 p.m., police received a report of 20-30 kids drinking beer and smoking in the hundred block of Pierce. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Arrest for hit and run, resisting – At 11:37 p.m., police logged a report of a hit and run causing property damage at San Pablo and Castro. The subject got out his car, and a light pole was down. At 11:49 p.m., police arrested an Albany male at San Pablo and Castro on suspicion of hit and run and resisting an officer.
