Police Calls: Stolen Car, Skateboarders on School Roof, Police Refuse Live Ammo

The Albany police log for May 4-5 includes a stolen car on Kains, three juveniles skateboarding on a school roof, a man trying to break into a jewelry store and the rebuff of a person who wanted to turn in live ammunition to police.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Saturday, May 4

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 3:19 a.m., police received a report of a person passed out on the sidewalk in the 800 block of San Pablo Avenue. The person, a male from Moreno Valley, CA, was arrested at 3:31 a.m. on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Attempted burglary – At 5:44 a.m., a person came to the police lobby and reported that five minutes earlier a man with a blue crowbar was trying to break into the side security door of a jewelry store across from Al's Big Burger. The suspect was described as white male adult, about 5-feet 7-inches tall, wearing glasses, an army jacket and a do-rag on his head. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 8:31 a.m., police received a report of non-injury vehicle accident at Marin and Curtis involving a black Infiniti and a black compact car. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Non-injury accident – At 10:45 a.m., police received a report of non-injury vehicle accident on Ramona. Disposition: Log note only.

Bike stolen – At 7:01 p.m., police received a report of a bicycle taken at an unknown time on Adams. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drug arrest – At 10:32 p.m., police arrested a male Richmond landscaping worker on suspicion of possession and transporting of methamphetamine or other controlled substance.

Sunday, May 5

Hit and run injury – At 9 a.m., police received a report of pedestrian injured by a hit and run vehicle at the previous day at Turf Club parking at Golden Gate Fields. The reporting party has contact with a witness who took a photo of the responsible person. Disposition: Case report taken.

Live ammo problem – At 10:41 a.m., a person in the police lobby wanted to turn in live ammunition and was advised that the police department no longer accepts live ammunition and to take it down the street to the Old West Gun Room. The person said he "can't understand the reluctance to accept live ammunition." Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Skateboarding on top of school – At 3:41 p.m., police received a report of three juveniles skateboarding on the roof of a school at Buchanan and Jackson. (Editor's note: Ocean View Elementary School is at that intersection.) Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Auto theft – At 9:02 p.m., police received a report that a natural gas vehicle was stolen sometime during the day on Kains. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.
