Search for Berkeley Laundromat Robber Turns Up Empty

During the search, residents were advised to stay inside their homes and call 911 if they saw or heard anything suspicious.

Police searched a Berkeley neighborhood for hours for a suspect who robbed a laundromat this morning but concluded the search without making an arrest, according to police.

The suspect robbed the Wash & Shop Laundromat at 2450 Sacramento St. at about 8:30 a.m., stealing cash from the business at gunpoint before running from the store, according to police. Responding officers shut down the neighborhood looking for the suspect, asking residents to stay indoors and to report any suspicious activity. Police searched the area into the afternoon with assistance from an Oakland police dog but couldn’t locate the robber, Berkeley police said.

Streets in the area reopened by about 2 p.m. and police were clearing the area. The suspect was described as a black man under 30 years old standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with a slim build, police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said. He was wearing a long-sleeved gray hooded sweatshirt during the robbery and may have silver teeth, Coats said.

Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery at a Berkeley laundromat this morning, according to police. The robbery at the laundromat in the 2400 block of Sacramento Street was reported at 8:31 a.m., police said.

As of noontime, police are still searching the surrounding neighborhood for a suspect. Residents have been warned that the suspect is believed to be armed. The suspect is described as a black man under 30 years old standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with a slim build, police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats said.

He was wearing a long-sleeved gray hooded sweatshirt during the robbery and may have silver teeth, Coats said. Residents have been advised to stay inside their homes and call 911 if they see or hear anything suspicious.
