Road Paving on 40 Streets in Berkeley Starting This Month
Berkeley officials have been notifying residents of the paving work by sending out mailers.

Berkeley will soon begin paving 40 streets using a $30 million streets and watershed bond passed by city voters in 2012, city officials announced Wednesday. The city will pave the equivalent of 11 miles of roads, an amount that is more than double the typical paving pace of recent years, according to city officials.
In addition to funds from the $30 million Measure M from 2012, the paving will be funded by the Alameda County Measure B sales tax, as well as capital improvement fund and gas tax revenues. The paving is scheduled to begin this month and should be completed within four months, city officials said. Berkeley officials have been notifying residents of the paving work by sending out mailers.
Residents will also be given letters or notices about two weeks before paving of individual streets begins. The Measure M projects will temper storm water runoff, reduce flooding and improve the quality of water entering the city’s storm drain system, local creeks and the San Francisco Bay, city officials said.
