Saint Mary's Homecoming October 11

Saint Mary's Homecoming is October 11. Read all about what's happening at Saint Mary's.

The undefeated Panthers will meet Valley Christian of Dublin for Saint Mary’s Homecoming game this Saturday, October 11; JV plays at Noon and Varsity kicks off at 2:30 at Brady Park. Alumni are especially encouraged to come on out and cheer on the teams. Spirit Week leading up to the game has daily ”theme” dressing and the big rally on Friday will bring down the house with the annual “Which Class Can Cheer the Loudest?” competition in the gym. The week’s themes include Pajama Day, Twin Day (pictured), Sports Team Day (Go Giants!), USA Day, and finally, Class Theme Day. The Panthers will play at Salesian October 18, at St. Patrick-St. Vincent October 24, and at Pinole Valley on November 7.

The Class of 1974 gathered for a weekend of activities celebrating their 40-year reunion in September. They were in the bleachers in red tees with a big “Class of 1974” banner to cheer on the Panthers to an exciting 28-14 victory over the Bishop O’Dowd Dragons on September 20. As SM Athletic Director, Greg Kelly, said, “Now, THAT was a high school football game! Great crowd, great student participation, and a great day to be at Saint Mary’s!”

Over the Columbus Day Holiday weekend, the Outdoor Club will explore Yosemite, and on Monday, faculty and staff volunteers will again help out at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. On October 19, Saint Mary’s volunteers will head to San Francisco before dawn to work at the Nike Women’s Marathon for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

To mark the month-long 8th International Lasallian Days for Peace, prayers from the Saint Mary’s community, written on small, folded pieces of paper, will be added to the multitude already in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, hand-carried by Saint Mary’s Head Gardener who will make a trip to Israel this Fall. The prayers were collected in a special afternoon service held by the school’s Campus Ministry office on October 7.

The Saint Mary’s Admissions program is in full swing, with eighth graders touring campus, parents enjoying a morning cup of coffee and seeing the campus, information nights, and the annual and popular Open House for prospective students coming up on Sunday afternoon, November 23.
