  • School Seismic & Safety Improvements: In 2012 and 2013, a team of structural engineers assessed the seismic safety of all of our school buildings. It was determined that two of our elementary schools, Marin and Ocean View, require significant seismic improvements. These seismic repairs, in addition to school safety improvements and accessibility updates, are needed to help ensure classrooms meet today’s safety standards.
  • Addressing School Overcrowding: The number of students in our district has increased by an average of 275 every five years and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. Additional classrooms are needed to accommodate growing student enrollment and help ensure that we maintain high-quality education.
  • Providing a Modern Learning Environment: Updates to classrooms, science labs and instructional technology are needed so students have a solid background in subjects like science, technology, engineering and math.
  • Addressing Safety and Modernization Projects: Facility improvements of this magnitude are beyond the scope of the school district’s operating budget, so the District is considering the possibility of placing school improvement bond measures on the June 2016 ballot.

Please take time to join us for the Community Stakeholder Meeting on Facility Needs on January 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. For more information about the needs of our schools or the potential school improvement bond measures, please visit the AUSD website at www.ausdk12.org and/or contact my office at superintendent.schools@ausdk12.org.
