Albany Artist: Amanda Gain Azevedo

This stay-at-home mother of three proves you don't need a lot of space to create really cool art. Know other Albany artists to feature in our holiday guide? E-mail emilier@patch.com.

refers to herself as a dabbler. She likes to collect objects from places such as the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse, Urban Ore and thrift shops. Eventually the objects tell her what they want to become. A collection of old vinyl records and some second-hand teacups and candy dishes are now clever pedestal platters and fluted bowls. She uses pages from an old dictionary to decoupage switchplates. When she's done with the pages, she'll make an altered book from the cover.

For this artist, it's win-win. Making art is therapeutic, and old items get a new life. You can find her shop online or e-mail her. She'll deliver to local folks in time for Christmas! (See the full holiday shopping guide here.)
