Suspicious Package Prompts Closure of Intersection in Berkeley

The alert was issued shortly after 1:30 p.m. and the intersection has since reopened.

A North Berkeley intersection has reopened this afternoon after police determined a suspicious package found there was not dangerous, according to police.

Police announced just before 4 p.m. that the intersection of Monterey Avenue and Hopkins Street had reopened. It had been closed since at least 1:30 p.m. A suspicious package was found there sometime earlier today.

Police checked the package and determined it did not contain anything dangerous, police said.

A suspicious package has prompted the closure of a Berkeley intersection this afternoon, police said. Police said in an alert issued shortly after 1:30 p.m. that the package was found near the intersection of Monterey Avenue and Hopkins Street.

The intersection is closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic while authorities investigate the package, police said.
