UC Berkeley Makes List of Top 10 Greenist Schools
The rankings were compiled by the Sierra Club.

Sierra Magazine has released it annual rankings of thegreenist universities in the country. Of 153 schools ranked, Cal came in at #10.
Here’s what Sierra Magazine said:
A third of UC Berkeley’s campus fleet is green, and the League of American Bicyclists certified Cal as a “Bicycle Friendly University.” Car parking is purposely limited to 5,500 paid spots (for a population of 45,000), so more than 5,000 people park a bicycle on campus each day. (Pictured above: During Cal’s Bike to Work Day, students and staff cycle to their offices and lecture halls.) UCB’s dining halls offer organic milk, bread, and tofu produced less than 50 miles away. Eggs are organic as well, and fish is Marine Stewardship Council–certified, though menus are at least 50 percent vegan. Academically, the university is known for its output of peer-reviewed studies whose findings are critical to solving environmental problems. Over the past year, Berkeley research has predicted the ocean’s future extinction hot spots, shown that California’s forests are losing large trees, and proved that the state’s solar boom created more than 15,000 new jobs.
