What Would You Like to See from Superintendent?
Superintendent Marla Stephenson announced her 2012-13 goals to the Board of Education on Tuesday night. Weigh in here on how you'd like to see her achieve them, or whether you have other ideas or concerns.

Communication, student safety and fiscal responsibility are among the goals announced Tuesday night by the superintendent regarding her intentions for the coming school year.
Among plans is an innovative new pilot program to pair average, but low-performing, students with peer mentors and "wrap-around" support services to continue chipping away at the district's achievement gap.

THE GOALS IN A NUTSHELL
- Improve communication with surveys and quarterly newsletters
- Improve student safety by continuing the and developing a facilities master plan
- Increase student achievement, in part by using a "mathematics performance assessment" to judge student abilities and problem-solving skills
- Improve opportunities for increasing student well-being, particularly in relation to absenteeism
- Use the Strategic Plan to provide "education leadership"
- Fiscal stewardship: maintain a 10 percent reserve and reduce the structural deficit by 40 percent; analyze the need for renewal of the
- Governance: maintain a "culture of teamwork" between the superintendent and the board
