• HHS' Office for Civil Rights Settles HIPAA Investigation of Ambry Genetics Phishing Attack Affecting 225,000 Individuals (hhs.gov) — A major genetic testing company based in Aliso Viejo has agreed to pay $700,000 and overhaul its data security after a phishing attack exposed sensitive health information for more than 225,000 people. Federal regulators say Ambry Genetics must now complete a detailed risk analysis, tighten access controls, and train staff on HIPAA rules under a two-year monitored corrective action plan.
