"How Illness Helped to Spread the California Dream"

Michele Zack, is the author of two local/regional histories, both of them recipients of national honors from the American Association of State and Local History. Using Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena examples, Zack will show through her illustrated talk how important illness was in driving western immigration between the Civil War and the 1920s — and why and how this legacy has been underestimated by historians.

She will have a few copies of her latest book, Southern California Story, available for sale and signing if there are any left after the holiday season.
