With Altadena sitting on the Sierra Madre fault and still recovering from the Eaton Fire, officials are pointing neighbors to county readiness guides and the statewide Great California ShakeOut drill on October 15. 
• State health inspections of ICE detention facilities halted by Legislature (fresnobee.com) — An Altadena woman's harrowing month in immigration detention inspired a California bill to require state health inspections of detention facilities, but lawmakers halted the measure in committee. Her story, and Sen. Sasha Pérez's push for stronger oversight, keeps Altadena directly connected to an ongoing statewide fight over detainee safety and basic human rights standards.
• Eaton Fire survivors travel to California capital to get help (bigcountrynewsconnection.com) — Eaton Fire survivors from Altadena and Pasadena are traveling to Sacramento to lobby for a proposed $25 million Community Aid for Rebuilding Equity Fund aimed at helping low-income families return home. Altadena resident Damon Blunt and local groups like Altadena Rising argue grants, not loans, are essential as many fire victims still lack money and permits to rebuild.
