Noted Poet Vibian Aparicio-Chamberlin to Appear at Altadena Library

Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin is a prize-winning performance poet and artist who will be reading her poetry in English and some in Spanish at the main Altadena Library on Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m.  Gerda Govine Ituarte and Thelma T. Reyna are the two other featured poets at the event Three Latina Poets.
Vibiana has received an amazing number of awards for her artistry, several from cities such as Pasadena , Duarte and Los Angeles . She has also received proclamations and commendations directly from Pasadena Councilman Victor Gordo and Mayor William Bogaard of Pasadena . There were three City proclamations from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and even more awards from the California State Assembly and Senate.Vibiana has also been widely published with selections from her memoirs in the Pasadena Weekly. Her poetry has appeared in Inscape Literary Magazine, Pasadena City College; Poetry & Cookies Anthology, in 2010, 2011, and 2012, 2013, published by the Altadena Library; and Dismantle: Anthology of Writers of Color, Berkeley. Besides poety and memoir Vibi has also written for the  Huntington Gardens journal,The Tattler, and served as editorial writer for the Pasadena Eagle. She has been interviewed on KPFK’s Pocho Hour of Power, performed in the films El Otro Mexico and Language of Passion, Mexico City . This free series is sponsored by the Friends of the Altadena Library. Open mic readers may perform their poems in either Spanish or English. This event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation.
