PUSD Board to Discuss Censure of Board Member Once Again Tuesday

This time, the board will vote on whether to pursue a censure hearing of board president Renatta Cooper on the grounds that she disclosed information from a closed board hearing to the Pasadena Weekly.

The will once again discuss whether to censure a board member on Tuesday night, this time on whether to pursue a censure hearing against president Renatta Cooper for disclosing information about a closed session vote on whether or not to hire current Superintendent Jon Gundry.

Back on June when , Pasadena Weekly quoted  Cooper as saying that in a Saturday closed session of the board, members Ramon Miramontes, Kim Kenne and Scott Phelps voted against selecting Gundry.

Miramontes, Kenne, and Phelps said at the time the vote was never formally taken, and alleged that Cooper violated the state's open meeting law by disclosing the details of a closed meeting.

It is those three board members who are now pursuing the censure of Cooper. 

At Tuesday's night, they will need to convince a majority of the board to vote in favor of scheduling a full hearing if they want to offically censure Cooper.

It's no coincidence that they are also the same three board members for comments he made on newspaper websites about a prospective superintendent candidate who later dropped out of the race.  The board ultimately .

At the board's last meeting, a group of community members with various complaints about academic performance, racial inequality, and more, for spending so much time fighting against each other rather than working on solving the district's problems.
