Richard Foss, board member of the Culinary Historians of Southern California, is a man of many hats. As you might guess several of these are food related. For over 25 years he has served as restaurant critic and food writer and currently teaches culinary history at Osher Institute of UCLA. He is also a journalist, a food event organizer, and the author of a recently published book on rum. There’s more--he’s also a well received science fiction writer, Elizabethan history instructor at UCLA, theater director, and graphic designer. He has even worked as a travel agent. Wouldn’t it be fun to hear him speak, say on the history of Spanish food? Well you can by showing up on Friday, November 1st at the main Altadena Library for an event entitled A Taste of Spain. Richard will also be bringing his book Rum: A Global History for sale and signing. Not only will you hear Richard talk about Spanish cuisine, there will also be some culturally related entertainment in the form of live Spanish guitar by Olivia Chiang and Flamenco dances by Jessica Pacheco. Light Spanish snacks will be served. So remember to circle Friday, November 1 at 7:00 on your calendar. You know you will want to be there. This free event sponsored by the Friends of the Altadena Library will take place at the main Altadena Library located at 600 E. Mariposa St, Altadena.
