UPDATED: Hikers Trapped on Eaton Canyon Cliffside Airlifted to Safety
Two hikers were trapped overnight in the rain on the side of a cliff about 1,000 feet above Eaton Canyon.
ALTADENA, CA -- A man and a woman trapped overnight on a cliffside about 1,000 feet above Eaton Canyon were airlifted to safety Monday morning.
“They were hoisted up by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter,” said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Deputy Juanita Navarro. “They sustained minor injuries and were escorted to Farnsworth Park.”
An Altadena Mountain Rescue team started the search for the pair at 8 p.m. Sunday evening and spotted them on the cliff at about 11 p.m. A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter was going to try to hoist them to safety but had to call off the rescue due to overnight cloud cover, said Sgt. John Gilbert of the Altadena Sheriff's Station.

Authorities had to wait until morning to resume rescue efforts. The pair huddled on the cliffside in the rain overnight.
After daybreak, hog continued to hamper the rescue effort until late Monday morning. Both were OK, having suffered only scrapes, a sheriff's official said.

The hikers told ABC7 they went hiking but they lost the trail when it got dark, and they decided to call for help. But with only a thin sweater, they endured a cold night.
"You see that mist? We were in the middle of it, so it was raining the entire night on top of us," Humberto Solorio told the station.
He said they used their body heat to stay warm.
"We were there almost 24 hours," he said.
His girlfriend, Yneli Pineda, told Channel 7 they were just happy to be back.
"Glad we're here now 'cause it was bad, it was pretty bad," she said.
