2. Deer Valley Road Traffic Safety Improvements Project Set to Begin (contracosta.news) — Expect delays on Deer Valley Road between Empire Mine Road and Marsh Creek Road as Contra Costa County begins traffic safety upgrades affecting Antioch and Brentwood starting Tuesday, Sept. 8. Weekday daytime work through Nov. 20 will use traffic control and message boards, so Antioch drivers are urged to plan alternate routes and extra travel time during construction hours.
3. Podcast: Andrew Becker, Antioch City Council Candidate (contracosta.news) — Antioch voters get an in-depth look at District 4 council candidate Andrew Becker as he lays out how he'd tackle the city's budget deficit, police staffing, homelessness, and economic development. He also weighs in on traffic along Lone Tree Way, youth programs, the Beede Lumber Yard, El Campanil Theatre, and other hot-button local issues ahead of the election.
4. Antioch considers return of Economic Development Department to boost revenue (mercurynews.com) — Antioch leaders are weighing whether to revive a standalone Economic Development Department as the city faces a projected $15 million deficit and slowing tax revenues. Officials are debating salary levels, staffing structure, and partnerships to better recruit businesses, while residents urge clear performance goals so any new director delivers measurable results for Antioch's economy and neighborhoods.
5. BART Invites Speedrun, Celebration Of Transit Month And Agency's Founding (claycord.com) — BART fans are organizing a Sunday "speedrun" that will visit every station in the system, finishing in Antioch to mark BART's 54th birthday and the start of Transit Month. Participants will start in Berryessa/North San Jose, race the clock across 50 stations in about six hours, and enjoy games, prizes, and community along the way.
