Historic El Campanil Theatre building sold to church led by Antioch resident (antiochherald.com) — Antioch's historic El Campanil Theatre building in Rivertown is in escrow to become the new home of Legendary Movement Church, led by Antioch resident Pastor Eli Herrera, with closing expected September 29. Residents, business owners and city leaders are debating what the sale means for downtown arts, whether the city could have bought the building, and how federal law limits efforts to block a church buyer.
   

2. Deer Valley Road Traffic Safety Improvements Project Set to Begin (contracosta.news) — Expect delays on Deer Valley Road between Empire Mine Road and Marsh Creek Road as Contra Costa County begins traffic safety upgrades affecting Antioch and Brentwood starting Tuesday, Sept. 8. Weekday daytime work through Nov. 20 will use traffic control and message boards, so Antioch drivers are urged to plan alternate routes and extra travel time during construction hours.
   

3. Officials are debating salary levels, staffing structure, and partnerships to better recruit businesses, while residents urge clear performance goals so any new director delivers measurable results for Antioch's economy and neighborhoods.
   

5. BART Invites Speedrun, Celebration Of Transit Month And Agency's Founding (claycord.com) — BART fans are organizing a Sunday "speedrun" that will visit every station in the system, finishing in Antioch to mark BART's 54th birthday and the start of Transit Month. Participants will start in Berryessa/North San Jose, race the clock across 50 stations in about six hours, and enjoy games, prizes, and community along the way.
