In Loving Memory of Dotty Graham

ANTIOCH, Calif. — The Friends of the Antioch Library community recently said goodbye to one of its most devoted and cherished members, Dorothy “Dotty” Ann Graham, who passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 83.

For 25 years, Dotty was a steady, generous presence within FOAL. According to FOAL volunteer and member Lucy Meinhardt, if you were a volunteer, chances are you heard her familiar, warm voice on the phone. When Dotty called, you knew it was time for another Friends Book Sale. She coordinated book sale cashiers for many years, and thanks to her gentle persistence and sincere kindness, it was nearly impossible to say no.

And if someone fell ill on the day of their shift? It was often Dotty who quietly stepped in to take their place.

Her service extended beyond her own time and energy. Dotty’s husband of more than 60 years, Doug Graham, contributed his craftsmanship by building the bookcases in the Antioch Library lobby that house the ongoing book sale — a lasting and tangible symbol of the Graham family’s commitment to literacy and community.

Dotty leaves behind her beloved husband Doug, their three children and spouses, and six grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held at St. Ignatius Church on January 9, 2026 — a fitting tribute to a woman remembered for her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength.

But perhaps one of the most beautiful reflections of Dotty’s character came even after her passing.
In lieu of flowers, Dotty requested that friends and family make donations to the Friends of the Antioch Library — continuing her lifelong support of the organization she loved so deeply. Even in death, Dotty was thinking of her library, her community, and the future of literacy in Antioch.

That final gesture speaks volumes.

Dotty Graham did more than schedule volunteers. She built community. She nurtured friendships. She strengthened the foundation of FOAL in ways both visible and unseen. The bookcases her husband built will continue to hold stories for years to come — just as Dotty’s own story will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.

Her kindness filled more than volunteer shifts. It filled a room. It filled a community.

And it will not be forgotten.
