Arcadia Man Who Was Hit by Car Dies from Injuries
Fred Peterson, a 64-year-old Arcadia man, died from injuries suffered Feb. 6 when a car hit him at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Alta Street.
An Arcadia man died Sunday morning from injuries suffered when he was hit by a car while walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Alta Street, according to the Arcadia Police Department.
Fred Peterson, 64, suffered injuries to his right shoulder, head, chest and right leg in the accident which occurred around 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6.
Police did not hold the driver, a 53-year-old Temple City man, involved in the accident, Det. Mike Hale of the APD said. The driver voluntarily submitted to a blood test, the results of which will not be known for approximately 3-4 weeks from the date of the accident.

"I don't suspect the driver was under the influence," Det. Hale told Patch in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. Speed was also not a factor as the driver was going "at or under the speed limit," according to Hale.
Police said Peterson, known affectionately as "Cowboy" by his many friends at where he's a frequent visitor, was in the cross walk heading east at Santa Anita Avenue and Alta Street when he was struck by a driver going northbound. There is no traffic light at the intersection where Peterson was struck.

Det. Hale said Peterson was a transient and police have been unable to get in touch with any of his family members. According to police, Peterson had two listed addresses in the area: Santa Anita Park and on N. First Avenue.
The Arcadia Police Department Traffic Bureau is currently taking a look at the intersection where the accident occurred. In 2002, two pedestrians were fatally injured at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Bonita Street, which is one block south of the intersection where Peterson was hit.
