National Align Your Teeth Day!

National Align Your Teeth Day!

Wow, a lot has happened since 2002, the year I discovered Invisalign on a CD while driving to Santa Barbara for some whale watching. And some of you might find it strange that I know exactly what I was doing the moment I heard some orthodontic news. Seriously?

I’m a dentist and before dental school I was as normal as my temperature (the last time I took it after entering the building this morning.) And though most of my colleagues are far more eccentric than me, I do have my moments.

But I’m totally of sound mind when I block out USC’s loss to Texas in the Rose Bowl 15-years ago. And Invisalign has remained special.

Next Wednesday, August 11, is National Align Your Teeth Day and Invisalign has come a long way since two Stanford MBA candidates thought moving teeth with plastic was a great way to wind up living in the Florida Keys right next door to Jimmy Buffett.

While I gazed out in the channel looking for blue whales, I experienced an epiphany of sorts. Moving teeth with plastic would work for patients who suffered from poorly aligned dental arches AND biomechanical tooth decay issues and/or gums that were impossible to maintain between hygiene visits due to crowding. And it was more likely my “Stay-Young-Forever” Baby Boomer generation would say yes to regaining healthy, lasting SoCal smiles that had faded away just like so many Dodger World Series hopes had since 1988.

I’d benefitted from orthodontics and couldn’t believe I’d have an opportunity to be a provider and make a difference. As soon as GPs could gain Invisalign certification, I signed up.

We started very conservatively with a few cases per year and minor tooth movements that allowed for considerably less invasive cosmetic dentistry.

In 2015, everything changed; we gained the nod for the Top Restorative Invisalign Case in North America. And somehow, probably while I was taking some recovery time during a meeting, I wound up becoming a president and board member for arguably the best trained and most productive GP Clear Aligner group on the globe, the American Academy of Clear Aligners (AACA.)

And guess what? The AACA went out and officially created National Align Your Teeth Day (Wednesday August 11.)

So, I haven’t indulged a car wash in 2-3 months. I carry my own golf clubs and Annandale members won’t even say hello. What’s extravagant for me is a Havana Cappuccino at Peets. I have socks as old as our newest Temple City Dental Care team member.

But next week, I’m giving away as much as $1,200, free retainers worth another $600 (you get four), free teeth whitening, an oral health scan, the chance to win an Apple watch, and even my dog Spot (if he was still around.)

We are celebrating arguably the greatest dental innovation I’ve seen since Late Disco and we’re anxious to share the experience and the benefits.

A recent development came by way of some research that revealed our fees are about $500 below the 40th percentile in our 91870-zip code and why not? We believe Invisalign care should be available and provided sooner than later, setting up all periodontal, restorative, functional, and even sleep care for success. And every day, research shows oral health strongly impacts general health and quality of life.

If you’ve ever considered the chance to be healthier with the lasting SoCal smile you’ve always really wanted (with active care mostly averaging 5-8 months for the cost of a monthly non-OCD phone bill) find an AACA dentist, especially on National Align Your Teeth Day on August 11. We’re happy to take your call at 626/285-3161
