• Plaza set to gain new historic designation (madriverunion.com) — Arcata Plaza may soon gain formal recognition as a historic district, a move that could unlock grants, tax incentives and stronger preservation tools for downtown. At the same time, city planners are reviewing restoration plans for two key south Plaza buildings, aiming to revive historic façades while keeping the area active for local businesses and community life.

• Arcata City Council creates pathway toward cannabis smoking lounges (times-standard.com) — Arcata residents may soon see legal cannabis consumption lounges, as the City Council has unanimously introduced an ordinance creating a permit path for on-site use and event consumption. Local businesses and renters say lounges would provide safe, legal spaces and keep cannabis tourists in town. The measure returns at a future meeting for possible adoption.
