Day of Hope car show builds on success, expands in SM, Arroyo Grande (santamariatimes.com) — Arroyo Grande residents can look forward to a Day of Hope Community Car Show at Heritage Square Park on Aug. 22, raising funds for Mission Hope Cancer Center. The event features cars, live music, food trucks, vendors, and even a dog parade, with registration fees supporting cancer patients and families in Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria.

Former Cal Poly administrator sentenced for molesting girl in hot tub (fresnobee.com) — A former Cal Poly administrator living in Arroyo Grande has been sentenced to nearly a year in county jail and three years’ probation after admitting to lewd conduct involving a young family member. The case, which occurred at his Arroyo Grande home, includes lifetime sex offender registration, a long-term no-contact order, and a future hearing to determine restitution for the child’s ongoing emotional harm.

Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach buildings get makeovers with new murals (knews985.com) — A building in the Village of Arroyo Grande is getting a colorful new mural on the side of Village Creative, highlighting the town’s artistic spirit. The piece, expected to take about two days, aims to showcase local creativity, while a recently finished mural in Grover Beach adds to the growing Central Coast public art scene.

Cal Poly to honor Kristin Smart with new memorial grove 30 years after her disappearance (cbsnews.com) — Arroyo Grande readers may note investigators recently searched an Arroyo Grande home while Cal Poly moves forward with Kristin’s Grove, a new memorial space for Kristin Smart on campus. The grove, designed with her family’s input, will offer students and visitors a quiet place to reflect when it opens around the start of the fall semester.
