With no candidates filed in multiple local districts, county officials say each district must recruit interested registered voters by October 22 or risk costly special elections to fill these essential governance roles.
   

• Press Release: $42 Million Grant Advances Permanent Protection of Wild Cherry Canyon (einpresswire.com) — A $42 million state grant is moving Wild Cherry Canyon, just inland from Avila Beach, toward permanent protection as a nature preserve with future public and Tribal access. The project aims to block residential development, explore a new coastal trail segment between Avila Beach and Montaña de Oro, and invite local input through upcoming Diablo Canyon Lands planning meetings.
   

• Bob Jones Trail "City to the Sea" connection breaks ground (ksby.com) — A long-awaited construction project is finally connecting the Bob Jones Trail segment that starts in Avila Beach to the rest of the “City to the Sea” route along San Luis Obispo Creek. Local and state agencies are investing nearly $40 million to create a continuous bike and pedestrian path between Avila Beach, Highway 101, and San Luis Obispo, with Phase 1 expected to finish in 2028.
