Kern County Sheriff's Office seeks public help to find missing 17-year-old girl (bakersfieldnow.com) — Authorities in Bakersfield are urgently asking for help finding 17-year-old Maylea Zepahua, last seen Monday morning near East Brundage Lane and Weedpatch Highway. She is described as Hispanic, 5'4", 85 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a maroon shirt and white sweatpants. Anyone with information is urged to call KCSO or the Secret Witness Line.
   

2. Bakersfield City Council considers first-ever Airbnb ordinance in city (kget.com) — Bakersfield is moving toward its first-ever rules for Airbnbs and other short-term rentals, potentially legalizing them while adding permits, occupancy limits, quiet hours, and insurance requirements. The ordinance would also bring in hotel taxes projected at $1 million annually, with final council approval still pending after recent tweaks to insurance levels and tax collection.
   

3. ‘It's the right thing to do': Bakersfield City Council approves disputed 5-year sewer rate increase (kget.com) — Bakersfield’s sewer bills are set to climb sharply after the City Council approved a disputed five-year rate increase to fund major upgrades at Wastewater Treatment Plants 2 and 3. Councilmembers debated bonding, timing, and help for low-income households before narrowly backing the staff-recommended plan over alternative proposals and county-backed options.
   

4. Kern County DA: 42-year-old Bakersfield resident arrested after probation search (bakersfieldnow.com) — A 42-year-old Bakersfield resident was arrested after Kern County District Attorney investigators say they found suspected methamphetamine, scales, and drug paraphernalia during a probation search on White Lane. Prosecutors have filed three drug-related charges, including two felonies, and the defendant was booked into Kern County jail with arraignment scheduled the same day.
   

5. ‘They love to compete, they love each other': Bakersfield volleyball club sending 3 teams to national tournament (kget.com) — A brand-new Bakersfield club, Torch Volleyball, is sending three girls teams to nationals this June in its very first year, after quickly building a tight-knit roster from ages 10 to 18. Players and director Katie Gardenhire say long nights, trust, and a shared love of the game powered their rapid rise, and they hope the experience launches more local athletes into college volleyball.
