Beat The Baldwin Park Heat: Coastal Temperatures Beckon As Monsoons Pour

Intense heat, monsoonal moisture and thunderstorms inland all add up to Southland residents hitting the Orange County coastline.

There may be monsoonal moisture, torrential downpours and flash flooding inland, but at the Orange County beaches, partly cloudy skies and balmy ocean breezes reign.

In San Gabriel Valley, a flash flood watch remained in effect Thursday in the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley as "copious amounts of monsoonal moisture will continue to stream across Southern California" through the end of the day, the National Weather Service said.

Because of the monsoonal moisture, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms again Thursday, forecasters said. Any thunderstorm may produce intense downpours, which could trigger flash flooding, according to the NWS.

"Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation," according to an NWS statement, which said flash flooding and debris flows will be a threat especially in areas previously denuded in wildfires.

While Thursday's highest chance of flash flooding was in the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley, a flash flood watch was in effect until late Wednesday in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys.

Temperatures will stay the same in some communities Friday but drop by a few degrees in others, and by a few degrees more on Saturday.
