14 Riverside County Residents Named Among Top Tax Dodgers in California

Collectively, these people owe the government more than $4.2 million.

By ALEXANDER NGUYEN and RENEE SCHIAVONE:

With the deadline to file taxes just around the corner, the state of California decided to shame some taxpayers who haven't paid up— to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Twice a year, in April and October, the state Franchise Tax Board publishes a list of the top tax dodgers in the state. Something, they say, they are legally obligated to do.

In its list of the "Top 500 Delinquent Taxpayers," the FTB includes individuals as well as businesses that have not paid their taxes. Collectively these entities owe the state $266 million in income taxes.

Topping of the list of individuals overall? Sherman Mazur of Beverly Hills. He owes the state a whopping 12,414,480.19. A lien has been placed on him since 2013, according to the FTB.

As for individual offenders in Riverside County? Here's who the FTB lists:

  • Michael A Morton of Corona owes $295,402.65
  • Jon N Wilson of Desert Hot Springs owes $211,386.37
  • Sommer D Andreas of Hemet owes $247,597.46
