2 Hurt in Truck Crash in Banning

A large truck crashed off eastbound Interstate 10 near the Beaumont Shopping Center in Banning early Thursday, and left two people hurt and trapped inside, a fire spokesman said.

Firefighters went to the freeway east of the Sunset Avenue on-ramp shortly before 6 a.m. One person was freed from the wreckage and flown to a hospital for treatment of moderate to major injuries, Riverside County Fire Department spokesman Mark Annas said.

A second person suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

A gas tank leak prompted firefighters to call a hazardous materials team to the scene, Annas said.

There was no immediate word on how the crash happened.
