MORENO VALLEY, CA — Overnight closures on the west- and eastbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway are planned later this month to facilitate work that involves expanding an overpass, according to the city of Moreno Valley.

Officials said that the contractor working on the Moreno Beach Drive Bridge Project, along with Caltrans, needs to partially close the 60 freeway at the bridge on the nights of March 18 and 19.

"These closures are necessary steps so crews can do critical work on the project," Moreno Valley Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said.

At 11 p.m. on March 18, crews intend to close all westbound lanes on the 60, detouring traffic through the city and back onto the freeway via Redlands Boulevard and Ironwood Avenue. The closure will be lifted at 7 a.m. the following day.

At 11 p.m. on March 19, all eastbound lanes on the 60 are scheduled for closure, and motorists will be detoured through the city via Nason Street and Ironwood, officials said. The closure will, again, be lifted at 7 a.m. the following day.

"The closures will allow construction crews to install a temporary system to construct the west side of the new bridge," according to a city statement.

The $24 million project got underway last August and is expected to wrap up in mid-2023.

The current two-lane span over the freeway has suffered degradation, and the revamped one will feature an expansion to seven lanes, as well as new storm drains and sidewalk space, according to the project managers.
