81-Year-Old Man's Stabbing: Banning Police Release Details

A convicted felon was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.

BANNING, CA — A man who allegedly tried to stab an 81-year-old man to death in Banning remained behind bars Monday in lieu of $1 million bail.

Freddy Armando Ochoa, 27, of Banning was arrested after police found the victim around 10 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of Drury Lane. The elderly man was outside a residence and was bleeding from several stab wounds to his upper body, according to Banning police.

The victim was sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, according to police. His identity was not released.

According to jail records, Ochoa was arrested soon after police arrived and conducted a search of the area. It's not clear how police determined Ochoa was the suspect or what his motivation might have been. He was taken into custody on N. Martin Street and was being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder, the jail records show.

Ochoa is due to appear in court Tuesday. He has several prior felony convictions in Riverside County, according to court records.
